2026 Reviews: Part 3 - The Nordics

Denmark - Søren Torpegaard Lund - Før Vi Går Hjem

It came through a strong field in the national final, and deservedly so. Hooks you in from the first line and just doesn’t let go. The lyrics are dramatic, as poor Søren accelerates from ‘Kiss me’ to ‘Burn to death’ in less than a chorus. Even with an energetic routine in what looks like a giant fish tank, Søren’s voice sounds just as good live as it does in the studio, and thankfully his team has had the good sense to keep the Danish lyrics.

Verdict: 8/10 - Strong contender for a top five finish.

Norway - Jonas Lovv - Ya Ya Ya

Rampant Jonas growls about his animal instincts over a chugging guitar, before declaring that he wants to ride all over your pretty clothes. It feels dirty and it’s accompanied by a fair bit of crotch rubbing on stage. At first I wasn’t keen, but the track is persistent and is a real grower.  However, it all feels a bit repetitive about two thirds of the way through and by the time Jonas finishes grinding away at the climax, I’ve lost interest so the whole thing ends with a whimper rather than a bang.

Verdict: 6/10 - Touch and go whether it ends with a semi, or penetrates the final.

Sweden - Felicia - My System

Hard to be sure if it’s her no-good ex she’s complaining about, or a persistent piece of malware. Regardless, this is a slice of EDM perfection: a powerful anti-love anthem for five business days followed by two days of absolute chaos. Felicia is bound to bring her turquoise lasers and her slick routine to Vienna, so the whole thing will sail through to the final, and too right. I haven’t been this pleased to see a face mask since 2020. Brings back a wave of nostalgia for baking banana bread and organising a Zoom quiz.

Verdict: 8/10 - A certain top ten finish in the final, perhaps higher.

Finland - Linda Lampenius and Pete Parkkonen - Liekenheitin

This is one of those legendary entries which tells a story that transcends all barriers of language. The Finnish lyrics sounds beautiful and relay the torment of a dangerous, obsessive relationship. The combination of pulsing beat and violin is irresistible. With Pete’s exquisite voice singing his confession, flames taking hold around him and Linda fiddling fanatically in a dress made of Bacofoil, both song and spectacle are red hot.

Verdict: 10/10 - Head and shoulders above the rest, should torch the competition.
